Reasons for pursuing medicine

I've often been asked "why is it you want to become a doctor?"

Everytime im asked that question i feel a bit overwhelmed. It's a compilation of life long experiences that have led me to this desire.
Sure, i want to help people, and i've lost grandparents to disease and cancer but those reasons are not sufficient to explain my true feelings for medicine.

My question is how is everyone else going about addressing this question? Should i just focus on some of the main experiences i've had with medicine? It just seems as though anything i can possibly say will be "cliche" or morbid.

It's not so much about finding a novel reason as it is about supporting the reasons you do state. Everyone will have some form of:

I like to help people

I like science

I like solving problems

I find medicine fascinating

I lost a loved one to disease

How good your personal statement turns out to be will depend on how you support any of those statements.

money in da bag.

Personally, I want to go into the Medical field because I really enjoy talking/interacting with different people, and help them with their problems (just general problems, not necessarily health-related at this stage) and I can't think of any better profession that allows for that than Medicine. That, and the fact that it's a field that always changes, so you never stop learning. Oh, and the whole problem solving based approach as well...

I wanted to be a doctor since I was three and half years old after I broke my right femur and had to spend a month in the hospital. I don't know what clicked in my little three year old head, but it did.

As I've grown older, and particularly as I progressed through college, I realized that medicine was a perfect mix for my talents, I'd get to use my mind to solve problems, but I would also get the chance to meet many different people. That social aspect of the profession was really key for me, and the part that gets me most excited about being in clinic. I know that some people are in medicine for the science but that's very secondary for me.
