Reassure me College visit not necessary

We also did not do any campus visits (other than in-state) in advance due to financial and time-constraints. My son then attended 2 “admitted student” events, and crossed one college off the list.
His post-acceptance visit to USC (complete with a tour of the surrounding neighborhood) convinced him that it was the place for him and, happily, he will be a sophomore there this fall.

Definitely have him tour some local universities so he can see what an Urban/suburban/rural one is like. WHat a big one and a small one is like.
What are dorm rooms like in general.

bopper
Yes, he will tour a variety of local schools. We are fortunate to live in an area that has many, many schools within a 2 hour drive. He has also done summer programs at 2 seperate LACs and at 2 urban schools. He ruled out urban, no traditional campus schools due to his summer program.

The big/small is more difficult. He cares about average class size, but doesn’t care about size of student body in general. This means some larger Uni with small Honors classes appeal to him.

Bye Bye Savings
We are PA residents too! The PASHHE schools are very unappealing to us. Many are just too remote and lack an academic peer group. IUP looks good on paper to me because of the Robert Cook Honors. West Chester is just too party for my kid based upon kids he knows. Millersville is the only one that is slightly appealing to him now & only because I insist he need one PASHHE for financial reasons. His cousin goes there.

MD Mom
I would be thrilled if my kid had 1 school he loved & I could afford. He has 1 school he without a doubt wants to apply to sight unseen, but it isn’t one I could promise to afford without substantial FA. My “Mom’s schools” are definitely of the variety of being closer to home and ones I can afford.
