A Yale School of Music Professor I know wrote me a rec.
My app is focused much on Music, though my numbers and extracurricular activities are strong as well.

I sent in my music supplement, wrote the big essay on music, and described a lot of music stuff in my life. Would an additional rec be too much, though it's from Yale's professor himself?

In what context does he ‘know’ you? If you’re submitting the rec because it’s from Yale, no. If he has worked with you closely or mentored you, beyond simply familiar with your work, yes.

well don’t generally adm. officers not like reading additional things, though Yale says we can submit one? I already submitted a supplementary letter from another mentor.

It’s not too much if it adds something about you that’s not clear in the rest of the admissions package–so if this faculty member has worked directly with you, for example, it’s fine to submit it. If he’s just a friend of the family, perhaps not.

I got in SCEA, and I’m a cellist. I submitted a letter from my home teacher and a music supplement. Remember that the music faculty will be involved in the evaluation of your arts supplement (assuming the faculty member in question is on your instrument). My advice? Don’t overdo it. The adcom might be annoyed by another music thing if your entire app is about music.
