<p>How many rec letters is too many? I'm applying to 4 summer programs and I might be interested in more. I've already told the 2 teachers I'm asking that I will be asking for more, and they're fine with it. (They're writing a generic letter to send to multiple places). So my question is, how many is too many? I don't want to get a bad impression from these teachers because I'm planning on asking them for rec letters for college. Any advice?</p>
<p>My rule is if they have to write it down to remember it, it’s too much. Typically, this is a max of 2.</p>
<p>How much extra work is it for them to submit letters to all the programs? From what I’ve seen, most programs expect teachers to fill out a specific form for them…unfortunately it’s not just about sending a generic letter to a bunch of places. I probably wouldn’t ask for more than two or three, but I don’t think it would be impolite to actually ask the teachers how many more they’d be okay with (and tell them what they would have to do).</p>
