Okay, this spring I may be going out to Indianapolis to see a concert. I'd like to make a college road trip out of it. I'm a pretty good student (3.7/4.3; 226 PSAT) who's looking to major in economics. I live in New Jersey.

Thursday, I drive out to Indy all day. The concert is Thurs. night. From there, I'd like to work my way back home to Jersey. I have a long weekend; school isn't back in session till Tuesday.

I definitely want to do Michigan on the way back (a little out of the way, but not too bad) and stop by Columbus to do a doubleheader of Kenyon and Denison. If I do Columbus one day, Michigan another, and drive home the last day, that leaves me w/ one day to fill.

Where should I visit? Oberlin, or is it too artsy? Case Western, or is it too techy? Ohio State, or is it no better than my in-state safety Rutgers and therefore worthless? Right now, I think Miami Ohio looks good...good rep in business/economics and a beautiful campus that might just be worth the visit itself.

if i were you....i'd visit a school who's stereotype you haven't seen yet. For example, I visited Illinois but not Michigan but I applied to both because I liked Illinois and Michigan was another Big 10 public university I could like. Not that Kenyon, Denison, and Oberlin are EXACTLY alike, but your going to get the liberal arts vibe from all three.

If I were you, I'd visit either Miami Ohio or Case Western just b/c CW is a tad different than the rest and Miami Ohio is suppose to be beautiful. Since you've already visited your large research university, perhaps you could just do a drive through of Ohio State (i don't really know that area very well)? During my college search, I only drove through the campuses of some schools and knew exactly if I didn't like it.

northwestern has a better economics program than all the schools you listed so far, and will have a somewhat similar campus environment. university of chicago is another good one, but the campus environment will be much different than michigan, etc.

and yes i would probably say ohio state is redundant if your safety is in-state rutgers.

Yeah, elsijfdl...Northwestern is in my (very) preliminary top three, alongside Michigan and Princeton.

However, I wouldn't have the time, especially since if I were to visit Northwestern, it would be kinda inefficient not to visit Wisconsin and Chicago, two schools I definitely want to check out but wouldn't have the time to go see. I think I'll do that trip separately (with maybe a visit to Carleton at the end).
