Anyone else having trouble with receiving their PIN? My mom recently signed up for a PIN and has yet to receive it through email even though the site says it was sent out today. Looks like a quality operation they are running over there with numerous problems and subpar customer service.

I have never had a problem, perhaps your moms server is backed up?

No idea. Could be something with yahoo emails, because I never got mine through email either, just waited for it to come through snail mail. Which is what is going to end up happening here, I just can't believe this is a government run institution with all these problems. For the FAFSA I got conflicting advice from several representatives and finally got the right answer. They still tell me to put alimony in worksheet B time and time again, which is untaxed income, had to figure out that it would go in with AGI since it is taxed.(Won't fit anywhere else) Pretty soon I'll go to H&R Block, I'm sure they can figure it out.

I've learned from other parents at our high school that it takes 2-3 days to receive a pin through email. There is a note on the pin website that some servers reject certain emails as junk and to add their address to your email address book. If more than 3 days has passed and you have made the change to your address book, call the Dept of Education (runs the site). They have an 800 number and are supposed to be quite helpful (at least, according to HS counselor).

My parents were also having trouble recieving their pin. when we got the email link, it would say "no match found". i called the pin help # and they said that those who applied for a pin before sunday the 9th would probably have trouble with their pin due to tech. difficulties they were having.

they said to just reapply if it happened again. so we did and it worked. we go the email in 2 days.

I have had the same problem with all 3 of the family PINs. We applied on January 2, and I still do not have PINs. After NUMEROUS phone calls to the 800 number, I finally spoke with a supervisor (Linda Carosan) who says they have a bug in the software and are trying to fix it. Meanwhile, I have tried everything (reapplied, restablished, blah blah) and we still don't have PINs. I told Linda that I think I will NEVER get a PIN. (She didn't disagree!) Meanwhile, I'm trying to do everything via snail mail. it is very annoying. Good luck. Don't tell Linda I sent you!!!

weenie
try re-applying today. it worked for me after failing 3 times.

At this point, I'm worried that if I try to re-apply again it will "set back the timer" and I'll never get the thing in the mail (she told me it takes 14 days from something...).

"set back the timer"??? i'm not sure what you mean because my parents applied and re-applied at least three times from jan 3-jan9 because it was saying thier password was invalid when it wasnt. then when they reapplied on jan10, they go the email 2 days later that succesfully accepted the password.

I got it to work by requesting a duplicate PIN 2 times, that finally dispatched an email out.

Hmmm...well, maybe I'll give it another try!

I've got a question--can I start a FAFSA without a PIN?

yes. when you start a fafsa, i believe it asks you whether you are going to use a PIN or not. if not, you can print out the signature page. but i suggest getting a pin becuase its simply easier and faster.

If you want to do it online you need the PIN first to sign the electronic signature page.

It took me forever to get my PIN because I lost it; but even so, they were pretty inefficient. I ended up having to reapply a bunch of times, emailed them twice and then finally called the 800 number. Hang in there!

used pin... much faster
