Receiving Waitlists?

Exeter: Denied
Andover: Unknown
Deerfield: Unknown

Because I have not heard from Andover or Deerfield, I have to assume that I have not been accepted. If I were to be waitlisted should I have already heard by now? Should I be expecting 2 denial letters on Monday?

Hi ,

I had been accepted into Deerfield, but since I didn’t apply to Philips Academy, I don’t know about the results. However, my friends who applied said that they got their results from Andover already. Hopefully that helps

Sometimes, schools actually contact each other, and basically call dibs on a student. So Exeter might purposefully deny you, because perhaps Andover or Deerfield might have accepted you. That’s just one possibility.

If you’re in the US, I think (from what I’ve heard), that Andover mails the results snail-mail, so you may get it later on in the week.

No, the schools do NOT horse-trade, because:

 1. it’s illegal (it violates U.S. anti-trust laws)
 2. the AO’s simply don’t have the time

However, a school that is not as well known as HADES might deny you, because they think you’ll go to the more prestigious school (a.k.a. my Taft rejection. :() From what I’ve heard, schools have to keep their yield rates high.

@GMTplus7 I don’t live in the US, so I don’t know much about the laws. This is only what I’ve heard, but it probably isn’t true.

@denial, I know all Deerfield acceptances got their package on the 9th. I got a waitlist letter on the 9th, but i dnt live that far from the school, so i dont know if everyone who was wl already got their letter.

@ denial - got our Deerfield waitlist letter via US postal service on march 09 in NJ.

@Apps2015 I’m on the west coast so it wouldn’t surprise me that snail mail hasn’t arrived. On a side note, what do the waitlists entail? When do you find out if you get accepted? What are the chance of being taken off and being accepted? I ask this because my fate may be resting on waitlists if not rejections…
