Hello, all,

I'm a 24 year old male student. I was admitted to Columbia University- School of General Studies for the 2011-2012 year. However, I was also admitted to the University of Washington, one of the more prestigious state schools in the country. I'm having a hard time deciding which school to attend because I've read post after post about how the School of General Studies is 1) not as prestigious as Columbia College, 2) Students at GS are treated differently than CC/SEAS students, 3) Financial aid sucks at General Studies! At UW, the roughly $8,500 tuition is a steal for the great education. I'd like the opinions of current or former University of WA students, please, to help me make a good decision. What would you do? I'd appreciate any input.

Keep in mind that tuition will be around $10,500, not $8,500…they raised it about 20% since last year. However, I think it really depends on your program. I went to a private university in Washington, D.C. last year to study business, and I’m glad I didn’t stay because the cost difference was not worth it. So unless Columbia G.E. has a particularly good reputation for your program of study compared to UW, I think UW might be the better choice for you.
