Now, I'm not complaining, so don't misunderstand what I'm trying to say. But for me, it would have been easier to return yesterday had there been fewer differences between life at home and the Academy (i.e. media, civilian clothes, not being at attention, you get the idea). Like I said, I'm not complaining. I understand that to get those things requires time and hard work, and I'll get all of those privileges later this year, and enjoy them thoroughly next year while 2012 whines about how hard coming back is (yeah, most of your class will do it, it's kind'a seems to be a given).

To be honest though, I just enjoyed being around my family so much during Break. Yeah, civvies, media, driving a lot, and friends are great, but I just miss being around my family. At least Spring break will be pretty enjoyable (both being at home and coming back).

OK, stupid mother's question... what exactly is this "recognition" day? Sounds like when the smart kids in high school went up on the auditorium stage and the not-so-smarts had to clap for them from the last rows of same auditorium. (Just kidding!)

Recognition is the major training event of the spring semester. It's essentially a three day beat session after which the four degrees are recognized as upperclassmen. At that point, all the freshmen year stuff (running the strips, eating at attention, etc.) stops and we get most of our privileges back (civies, at rest everywhere, etc.) - thus, recognition is what we look forward to basically all year long. It's the light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak.

So, it takes place in the middle of the 4th or 3rd degree year?

It takes place during mid-March each year, but has the greatest impact on the four degrees - it's directed toward the freshman class.
