The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. Excellent book. Well written, about a lot of the internal conflicts of soldiers in Vietnam

^^or his other book tomcat in love which was kinda better

1984, The Pillars of the Earth(if you can sit through 1000 or so pages), and anything Shakespeare!:)

Wartsandall had a good thread about this a while ago. Go stalk him :]

guns, germs and steel; talent is overrate; outliers: the story of success (?); in-n-out:burger; fast food nation!

Walden by Henry David Thoreau

yeah there was a post about this not too long ago.

Lolita is pretty stimulating. It’s multifaceted, has more than one layer of depth, etc…

plus it’s practically a classic:)

Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Never read it myself, but my sister loves it.

lolita first comes to mind at provocative.

then catcher in the rye in controversial.

i wouldn’t say it’s provocative but the great gatsby is like the canon of american literature.

Brave New World brings up ethical topics and is a pretty easy read.

Brave New World is very good. I loved Great Gatsby too.

Cat’s Cradle – Kurt Vonnegut

A novel/anthropology thesis (really)

on the road
the trial
the stranger
all are interesting reads which won’t take too long and raise interesting ideas.
if you watn something challenging i would say sound and the fury.

Thanks for the suggestions
