Hi everyone!
I have a few concerns regarding whom I should get recommendation letters from.
Right now I have to decide two out of three teachers. They are:
1)Chemistry teacher: I am definitely getting her since she helped me with chemistry olympiad/research and I did well on both. I also talk to her personally a lot.
2) Biology teacher: I have known him only this year. But he loves me since I did well in bio olympiad/ science fair/ and his class. But his english is not the best since he is from non-english speaking country. But he does think that I am one of his best students he had.
3) Spanish teacher: I have known her for two years. I got Spanish award in sophomore year but not junior year. I did interact with her a lot in sophomore year but the frequency quite dropped. She did write my rec for summer programs but I am worried that I did not interact with her much this year.
So I am definitely getting #1 but not sure about #2 and #3. I would get my bio teacher but he worries me since he messed up my name for one of the summer program rec…
For additional rec, I am getting one from a researcher at local cancer institute who loves me.
Thanks and please help me solve this problemmmmm!!!
Well, to solve a subjective problem with options, like this one, you need to know the circumstances. So, tell us what you are applying to, including college names, competitiveness, are you over/under qualified, etc.
For example, if you’re applying to a chemistry/biology program, or if you are well-regarded in all categories. I can’t help you to maximum potential until we know where you’re applying, but one factor is whether or not you try to go for a focused presentation of yourself, or a well-rounded one.
Which way is optimal really depends a lot on the school and degree you’re looking to get into.
First, this is the link to my stats:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1772777-what-range-of-schools-could-i-get-into-next-year-p1.html
My first choice is Brown PLME and since it is very competitive I am not sure if I am qualified enough or not. But this program does emphasize being well-rounded rather than being excellent in bio/chem. My second and third choices are NWU HPME and Univ.Pitt GAP. These are also early med programs which are very competitive.
I am applying a number of other BS/MD programs but some are just regular undergrads. (Reach/Match/Safety are automatically distributed since I am applying to schools in a broad range that rank from top 10 to top 100 in nation.)
If you want to know the specific names: (For bs md they are all reach but if just regular undergrad, I am not really sure)
Reach:
Brown
Northwestern
Univ. Pitt
UMKC
Case Western
UMiami
UConn
GeorgeWashington
Drexel
Rice
JohnsHopkins
Baylor
Emory
Univ. S. Alabama
