GT has some requirements for laptops that can be found on their website. These are just basic requirements though
[Student Computer Ownership - Georgia Tech](http://sco.gatech.edu/req_hw.shtml)

Don’t worry about cost predominantly as you’ll be using your laptop A LOT during college. Get one that is functions well (customer reviews/reviews in tech magazines, etc.), and if that means paying $100 more than a similar laptop then pay the difference–you’ll be reimbursed with peace of mind during college, knowing that your laptop won’t epically fail on you at 2 am. GT’s curriculum is stressful enough, and worrying about your laptop crashing every 5 minutes is just an unnecessary hassle.

If you had any models/makes in mind, feel free to ask away.

I have a MacBook Pro and love it, having Windows and Mac is great. Plus the battery life is excellent so I don’t need to be worried about having my computer die during a CS 1371 test or something haha. Georgia Tech has discount on a few brands, Apple, IBM, Dell and maybe one more (I forget). So if you want to buy it through the school you will save a couple $100 which is nice.

so can a Mac handle everything the school needs your computer to be able to run? and how do you buy a laptop through the school?

Besides a Mac, what is probably the best brand to get? I know that a Mac is “the best”, but I don’t really want to drop over $1,000 on a laptop. Is it possible to do this while still getting a laptop that has everything necessary and good quality? I don’t even know where to start looking for one (like what brand etc. I don’t really understand computer terms too well so whenever I try and look up laptops I get lost)

What are people’s stances on tablets for notes and so on? I’m considering the Asus Eee Transformer. I’m hoping that I can simply upgrade my current desktop and use a tablet/netbook for class :D
