Recommendation Letter by Librarian

Can a school librarian write a letter of recommendation for me?

Do you mean instead of a teacher? I would think that if the librarian knows you well he or she would be an excellent recommender. But I am not 100% sure if it would be counted instead of a teacher rec. Do you actually have a class in the library? I would ask your GC to be sure. @MYOS1634 , what do you think?

It would fall under the “other” recommendation, I believe, unless the librarian teaches a class and can evaluate you as a student in that class.

Agree, it cannot substitute for a teacher recommendation. But if the librarian knows you well --say you volunteer in the library or something and if the librarian can add a dimension to your application that a classroom teacher cannot then it is fine to have it as a supplemental recommendation.

It would serve as a supplemental recommendation. If you volunteered in the library, it could count as a “boss” recommendation (on the common app you often have to classify what the other rec is)
