Recommendation questions

I am trying to transfer to a number of colleges (Cornell, Columbia, Georgetown, etc) as a junior Economics Major.

However, I made a really good connection with my General Chemistry 1 professor who I think would write an excellent recommendation letter. Should I get recommendations from professors that are out of my intended discipline?

I have had 2 Economics professors before this semester but I'm not sure I made a good impression with the first one and, while I made a good impression with the second one, he's notoriously bad with remembering dates and following through on things which makes me a bit uneasy about asking him to write my letters.

How many letters should I send? Could I send 2 from Econ professors and 1 from the Chem professor? 1 Econ Professor, 1 Calculus Professor and 1 Chem Professor?

Also, how early should I give notice to the professors? And is it unreasonable to ask them to send to 14 different colleges? Is there some way to have them write one, send it to Common App and have it then distributed to the colleges?

Any guidance would be amazing.

Thanks.

In my opinion, it’s perfectly fine to get a rec from a professor who taught you in a class unrelated to your major, as long as he can give good insight into your character. Also, aren’t the application deadlines for those colleges all March 1st? If this is so, you should ask your professors immediately, because its almost mid february, and anything less than 2 weeks notice seems rushed.

How many should I send?

Would it be prudent to just have a rec from my chem professor? I feel like the econ professor that I gave my rec to will forget to send the recommendation. He’s really bad about following through on stuff.

Most schools require two recommendations, so you can’t just have a recommendation from a chem professor.
