Thank you! No, he didn’t lose it. I saw it today, I am going to ask him tomorrow if he sent it in because he said he would today.

And about how schools are lenient about late recs, that’s what I though too. But I got an automatic reply email from Andover and they said that students won’t be considered who don’t have a complete app by the end of January. This is really worrying me because my school report has not been received yet either. I need to talk with my guidance counselor to make sure she has sent it in along with my transcript. I had to ask the two most disorganized teachers in my school for recs, which was unlucky. Both of those teachers are not good with deadlines.

If you think that there’s a possibility that your teacher was disorganized and lost the recs and/or envelopes, here’s a strategy to get what you need, without embarrassing the teacher:

take the teacher addressed flat-rate priority mail envelopes

tell him that the deadline has passed, and it’s really super important that the forms get sent in right away

ask him to please put the completed recs in the envelopes, seal them, and then give them back to you - tomorrow, please! - so you can take them to the post office

oh, and by the way - here’s an extra form, just in case you want one to keep in your files

This gives the teacher an “out’ if he’s lost your stuff, without him having to admit to it.
Plus, YOU get the sealed envelopes back, so you know they’re done. Then take them to the post office and pay the flat rate postage - I think it’s $4.95 - and they’ll get to the schools faster than a regular stamped envelope.

Sorry - I sent my last reply before I read yours!

Please don’t worry - once you know that the recs have been sent, wait until Feb. 1, and if they still haven’t shown up on the tracking tool, let the schools know that your teacher sent them late. Believe me, they understand that some teachers aren’t too organized!

Once again - good luck! Hang in there - I know this is all stressful, but you’re learning great skills on how to navigate through and overcome adversity!

Thank you so much for your help! Yes, I was suddenly overwhelmed with stress when I discovered my teachers still had not sent them in. Oh, and are you sure that is the case for Andover too? Because they specifically stated that I wouldn’t be considered if my app was not complete by the end of January.

Just a note about priority mail - it is NOT any faster than regular first class mail, and there’s no advantage to it unless you want an extra service such as delivery confirmation.

Oh okay thank you, I will remember that when if I have to send them in. Do either of you know about how lenient Andover is? They were the only school that didn’t ask for applicants to call if they were concerned about late parts of their app. And they were the only one that said that you simply would not be considered if everything wasn’t in at the end of January.

@helloel, I notice that on the facebook page for Phillips Academy Admissions, whomever manages that page has been answering specific questions from applicants, including questions about sending in materials late. You might want to try posting asking your question there, and see if you can get an answer directly from the school.
