Recommendations for Application

I will most likely be out of town when I receive my application forms for the Naval Academy. I would like to get my recommendations before I leave. From who does the application request me to get a recommendation from?

They ask for one from your 11th grade math teacher and 11th grade english teacher. You put their e-mail address in online, then an e-mail request is sent to the teachers. They submit their letters online. Once they do, you will be able to see that item checked off in your online application status.

iotw, every year there seem to be problems w/ schools’ spam filters preventing teachers from receiving USNA messages. If you’re going to be out of town, you might inquire @ your school about that. One solution is to use teachers’ personal email addresses, but not all teachers are willing to give that to students.

I am sorry that I did not elaborate on my circumstances. I will graduate at the end of May 2009. I will then be in Alaska for four months without access to the internet, but access to regular mail. Do they still request 11th grade teacher recommendations from graduated students? Now that I think about it, I will contact the admissions office concerning my situation. Thank you for your help.

Does it have to be eleventh grade?

can you substitute a math teacher for a science teacher for your recommendations?

^^^^^

No. I suppose if there were a truly extenuating circumstance (i.e., the math teacher passed away), a substitution as determined by USNA might be permitted. But, as a general rule, they want Math and English. Period.

I had a student several years ago whose math teacher rec somehow didn’t make it to USNA (teacher said it had been submitted; USNA didn’t have it). Meanwhile, the teacher had moved to Botswana (literally). The student was able to track down the teacher and get the rec resubmitted.
