Looking for advice on the closest/best banks for Wooster students. Trying to get a jump on setting up my daughter’s checking and other bank needs before fall. She is from out of state so any advice on which banks offer good service for students and are conveniently located (and which banks to avoid) would be welcome. Thanks!.
I have no knowledge of COW other than it’s currently one of my S18’s top choices. But, I will tell you what we’ve learned from our D15’s OOS LAC. She has a checking account at a credit union in our state with free ATM locations several miles off campus. All we had to do is buy her a box of checks. She can go to the business office of her school and use her OOS checks to pay for things like bus tickets, get cash, and even get quarters for laundry. It’s like the school is her own personal ATM.
Opening a new bank account might be right for your family, but this is what works for us (especially because we can transfer money into and out of her account as needed from the comfort of our home computer. So, before picking a new bank, see if COW offers something similar if you think it might work for you.
You might look at Capital One 360 Checking - it comes with a huge no-fee ATM network (like in CVS stores and places like that) and has no fees or minimum deposits, free online banking, an app to use to make deposits and payments, etc.
If you google “College of Wooster” and click the map image you can then go into Google maps and use the “nearby” search feature to see locations of banks and ATMS in relation to the campus.
