So I need to start looking for colleges, and I'm interested in a top tier college which does well in its economic department.

Does anyone know of any useful sites that may help in my college selection?

And if you would like to recommendations on here, then I'm looking for a college with a campus not in the middle of nowhere. A decent martial arts program, and just a great atmosphere. Sorry if I'm asking for too many specifics, you can ignore this if you like and just recommend a good economic school.

claremont mckenna maybe?

i went to their college visit at my high school and hated it, but i remember they said they were really good for econ...

i'm a biology/science person, lol.

and of course upenn wharton and stuff but i'm sure you know about that already.

good luck!

wharton is renowned for finance. Im sure their econ is good, but wharton is a B-school, not an arts school, so it's alot different.

U of Chicago is often considered the best dept. in the country. Other best depts. include Harvard, Princeton, Berkeley, and a few more.

haha everyone says they're good for econ.
sorry i can't provide info on legitimately good economics departments, that's really far from my course interests.
and a "great atmosphere" is highly subjective. what makes an atmosphere great, in your mind? for example, i love the atmosphere at the college i'll be attending in the fall (swarthmore) but someone who thinks ucla has a great atmosphere couldn't disagree with me more. what are your stats like? that might help us give you some more realistic answers. considering any other studies than econ (double major/minors)?

If you are interested in econ, I would think of schools with great academic programs that are near big cities so that you can intern.

The heavy hitter in the world of classical (meaning not-business oriented but intellectually oriented) economics would be University of Chicago. However, I would not qualify UofC as a great atmosphere in my opinion.

Other reaches may include Northwestern, NYU, Columbia, and Harvard

On a slightly less reach oriented list you should look at: Carnegie Mellon, Boston College, some of the liberal arts colleges like Davidson, Haverford, Kenyon, maybe places like UVa and Penn State

Finally, a little lower but still fantastic include: Boston University, Babson, Bentley, Villanova, Fordham, Richmond, GW

Econ is the most popular major at HSC.A third of the student body majors in money.

UVA has a great program, but you have to apply to it after having completed freshman and sophomore years in the regular school.

CMU is awesome, got a couple friends headed there.

On that note UPitt has similar strong programs, so I'd take a look. Plus, you're likely to get a full ride there if you fill out all the scholarship apps.

Penn is strong in applied/business economics (wharton stuff) as well as theoretical economics. Philadelphia is definitely not middle of nowhere!
