Recommendations for match and slight reach schools

Hello all!

Thanks for taking the time to give me some suggestions.

I've already applied ED to my first choice school, St. Olaf, but I still need to apply to a few matches and perhaps a few slight reaches. I hope to major in biology, and would like to minor/have a concentration/double major/ in neuroscience. I'm from the south and I'm interested in LACs in the northeast and midwest.

Here's my info:

My ACT score is 28, and I will submit my Lit. SAT ll 780. I homeschool and have a home-GPA of 3.8. For half of my junior year and the whole of my senior year, I have attended a nearby university as a full-time student. My GPA at the university is a 4.0. I have also participated in an honors chemistry research lab program at the same university.

I have nice EC's. They are very particular; they match my personality and academic interests. For the sake of privacy, I won't list them here, but I have several years worth of community service and martial arts behind me.

My teacher reccommendations are great; they are from my professors at the university. I'm a strong writer, and I believe my essays reflect that.

I appreciate your suggestions!

You have safeties already (which you will definitely be admitted to and can definitely afford)?

Consider some of the other ACM schools:

Other possibilities:
Wheaton College (if it suits your religious orientation)
Centre College
Earlham
Hendrix

Kenyon (a reach relative to St. O.)

I second Earlham. Hope would be a safe match and is excellent for the sciences. It’s reasonably generous with merit scholarships, though your ACT makes you a borderline applicant for them.

[Hope College](http://www.hope.edu/)
[Department of Biology | Awards & Recognition](<a href=“Biology Department | Hope College”>Biology Department | Hope College)

What about Carleton? It is a LAC that appears to be stronger in the sciences than many other LACs.

Take a look at Grinnell - outstanding sciences, no distribution requirements, lots of money for paid student research, and fantastic facilities.

A 28 ACT would make Carleton larger than a slight reach IMO. Grinnell is a slightly closer reach.

Give Union a try.

Thank you all very much!

For a match look at Allegheny. They are strong in both biology and neuro. You would likely get merit aid as well.
