I plan on attending UCI in Fall 2016 and I was admitted with computer science as my major. I have very little to no experience with anything related to computer science. I do participate in the robotics program at my school and I self-taught myself how to code a limited amount of java for the class.
Back on topic, I was wondering if there are any recommendations of what I should do in order to prepare for college? Anything I should look out for or anything I should get a head start on? This would be much appreciated if a student or graduate with a Computer Science degree can answer.
You will be fine going in completely fresh - in some cases, it actually is beneficial as you haven’t established any bad coding practices yet.
If you really want to get started early, you could either do an online course or try CS50 from Harvard - if you go through all the way with it, you may find your first CS class a bit repetitive even.
@PengsPhils, thanks for the reply! It makes me comfortable that I won’t need to know anything going into college next year. However, I may as well start early just to ensure that I don’t fall behind.
