<p>Speaking of which, when my S had his promo shots taken last week, the photographer kept referring to his horn as a trumpet. If he didn’t value his horn so much, I think he would have hit her with it.</p>
<p>According to Jasper Rees marvelous book “A devil to play” (which I highly recommend for anyone even remotely associated with music or just needing a fun book to read) Brahms did not like the valved horn and he reputedly called it a “brass viola”…:). So if Brahms said that, well…</p>
<p>Yeah, he did, he simply wrote it for the natural horn:). Brahms was something of a traditionalist, I guess he didn’t like change much. And viola supporters should take heart, Brahms got plenty back from the likes of Tchaikovsky (who called him an ungifted <nasty word=“” deleted=“”> and Shaw, who basically called him an untalented idiot:) (Which before someone gives me a hard time, I happen to love Brahms music and I find them both way out of line…:)</nasty></p>
