Recommendations on backpacking across Europe

<p>I am going to be meeting my girlfriend in Dubrovnik June 11, but before then I want to do some backpacking in Europe starting June 4th. And depending on money, I would go to other places from Dubrovnik. I am an American student in England and would be leaving from London.</p>

<p>Anyone have an recommendations on what do between London and Dubrovnik? I would like to some cool, non-touristy things to see since I have already done that back in high school.</p>

<p>Let me know modes of transportation and hostel recommendations.</p>

<p>Years ago I had a travel guide “lets Go Europe”. You bougth a Eurarail pass for # of weeks, pick out your route & each time you arrived in a new city, at the train station, you selected the destinations & hostels from what you found in the Guide book. It was before internet & it worked well.</p>

<p>Traveled for 7 weeks this way on $1000 (+ $airfare + train pass another $1K = $2K total). Self funded.</p>
