<p>Expected Major - Computer Science (90% sure)</p>

<p>Male, White, from New York</p>

<p>Hey guys. I'm currently a junior at a competitive high school in suburban New York, and my grades are as follows:</p>

<p>-I've taken the most challenging and advanced classes my school offers (Will have taken 6-7 AP's by graduation, and classes in which there are no AP's have been advanced/Honors).
-Mostly A's and B's in Freshman/Sophomore years. Same thing with Junior year with the occasional C in AP Stats (no excuse, but my teacher taught us nothing and I had to use the review book).
-My teachers LOVE ME. I've had many of them for multiple years in a row, so i should have some KILLER recommendations hahaha .</p>

<p>Estimated Un-Weighted GPA : 87-89
Estimated Weighted GPA : 92-94+</p>

<p>Standardized Tests:
SAT - Have not taken (might take in Fall)
ACT - 29. Did not study one bit. Went into the test blindly, without even knowing there was a science section .</p>

<p>Expected Fall SAT - 2200+
Expected Fall ACT - 33+
Paying for summer tutors, and I plan to study for 3-4 months for these tests, concentrating on ACT more.</p>

<p>Extracurriculars:
I've played 2 sports every single year of school. Track in the winter and Lacrosse in the fall. Co-Captain of my track team this year and will be next year.</p>

<p>Tech Club, Green Power Club, National Honor Society Member, STAT club, and a small film club. Taken from freshman-junior/senior year. I haven't crammed them in to make them look good, and I actually enjoyed them =).</p>

<p>Achievements:
I've been taking a science research class since Sophomore year (when it was offered)
I placed 2/50+ students in the Computer Science category at a county-level competition there. I plan to place at the Siemens competition with the few participants in the computer science category. For those who don't know Siemens is a nation-wide competition and looks GREAT on college applications. My topic is on analyzing medical trends using Google Trends.</p>

<p>My dad has had two brain tumors since I was born, and while he was recovering I've had to live with numerous relatives, which can explain my sort of low GPA. Hopefully this will look good in a college essay too heehee.</p>

<p>So what colleges would you guys recommend, and what are my chances at an IVY such as Cornell (like 2-3 hours from my house)? I'm your everyday outgoing kid from the suburbs . I don't just stay at home and study, and I actually do stuff other than school work.</p>

<p>I'm interested in having more of a campus-like college. Like the one where you can go outside and hop into an Ultimate Frisbee game. But I wouldn't mind a city school either.</p>

<p>Sorry, but that GPA doesn’t look too competitive. I predict NYU-Poly or a SUNY like Stony Brook.</p>

<p>Apply to any place you want.
Who knows, maybe Harvard will be in need of a person who was in the Green Power club. lolz</p>

<p>Remember, the stuff that you have shown us is not the only stuff a college looks at. They might see your EC’s, and they are just okay but maybe thye want someone who has done that type of stuff.</p>

<p>Reach for the stars. The worst thing they can say is denied. lolz</p>

<p>Haha thanks. And I won’t be looking into the upper ivies until the Siemens competition in the fall. If i place, i most likely will. Otherwise, i’ll be looking at BC, Georgetown, and lower ivies such as Cornell/Brown/Dartmouth.</p>

<p>At what schools are students from your school with similar qualifications traditionally competitive?</p>

<p>I would say I’m top 10th.
Some of the kids ahead of me have taken no honors/ap their entire high school.</p>

<p>And kids with my standards have went to Cornell/Carnegie Mellon, Boston College.</p>

<p>Kids with Very low 80 averages have gotten into great state schools like UMich and UC-Berkeley.</p>

<p>My goal is Cornell right now, as I should get 1-2 points above their 75th percentile ACT next fall.</p>

<p>And if i do well at Siemens next fall (largest science competition in the US) I should have a decent chance. Otherwise, I’ll be applying to BC,Berkeley,UMich,Carnegie,RPI. My friend in my science research class is going to Carnegie Mellon with an 86 weighted average because of how well he did in competitions.</p>

<p>Safety Schools would be BU,Northeastern,UMass.</p>

<p>Reaches are obviously Cornell and probably CMU</p>

<p>First of all, you don’t have to explain to us what Siemens is lol. :stuck_out_tongue: Two, I’m sure you stand a chance at your colleges of choice, but you prob should do something this summer to seal the deal. Third, make sure you can afford these colleges. They’re a LOT. :/</p>
