So i've seen a lot of people asking about recommendations from alumni of a school and whether or not it helps. For the most part, it has been advised to get recommendations from the people that know you the best. So my question is, hypothetically, if two people wrote you the exact same recommendation, but one was an alumni, would the one from the alumni have more weight?

i think it would if the alumni was an active one (i.e... donates, interviews people... etc?).. otherwise I don't know.

I think it would only matter if the people reading your file's recs recognize the name of that alum. And that requires that they either be famous or be really active in admissions/donation/etc.
