like everything else about columbia's app, does CU prefer online recommendations to paper ones? Does it matter?

No, you will have to send in paper recs in the mail.

karot, i guess it was instituted this year(not sure) but the columbia site now has it so that teachers can submit their recs online, which is pretty handy. i hope the adcom doesn't mind, since my teachers both prefer online since it's more convenient for them.

"Your teachers and counselors may submit their reference letters electronically through our application system. If your recommender wishes to submit their reference letter on paper, please download and print a copy of our reference form and follow the directions for paper references."

they had the same thing when i was doing the grad school app earlier this year. its totally up to the person writing the recommendation which way they want to do it....the online one is alot more reassuring though as they tell you right when the person sends it in while the paper one takes weeks for them to tell you it arrived.

Oh sweet, I probably could've saved some postage if I had known about that.

and can the recs be sent anytime before the ED deadline? Will it just find its way somehow into your file?

yes. don't fret.

since we have to send in part I before we can start on part II and whatnot, does that mean they already opened up a file for us? so our recommenders can submit in their recommendations anytime?
