recommended books?

when a book is recommended (but not required) for a course (MATH 150A), does that mean you should get it?

Books that are recommended are those that the professors thinks will help in the course but won't require you to have it. Usually, recommended texts are solution manuals, study guides, and supplementary texts/books/stuff. For math 150, the recommended books would be the solution manual and study guide for sure. Solution manuals have worked out exercises while study guides have outlines and worked out practice problems. You should only get solution manuals if you think you'll need them and/or use them properly.

is there any way to find out what the isbn number of the books are? i want to try to look at the recommended book on amazon to see the reviews of it before i spend another $90 on a book. i tried to call the bookstore and they told me that they do not give out the numbers and online all they say is:

CALCULUS (SINGLE VARIABLE)
Author: STEWART Edition: N/A

and Stewart wrote about 100 calculus books, so i have no idea which book this is.

thanks for all the help.

Don't worry--once you are on campus and have the required book, you can easily get the study guides/solution manuals or whatever from amazon or else where (maybe used at the bookstore?)--you don't need all of them the first day of class.

that's true for the solution manuals, but is it true for the books? anyways, is it possible for some of the current students in vanderbilt to, you know, share the ISBN with us for the calculus book (I think there are several courses which use the exact same book- classes 150, 155, 170, and 175) and the general chemistry book? (class 102). Thanks in advance :).

From an on-line dictionary, handy for your freshman writing requirement:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyway means "anyhow" or "in any case." "Anyways" is a strictly colloquial expression, as ungrammatical in written English as "anyhows" because adverbs cannot be plural.

lol, i must have missed when this turned into a writing class

Oh, I also didn't capitalize the first word in my sentences.
