Recommended GRE Books and Preparation

I have a two part question.

1) Which GRE books do you recommend I use to study?

2) How do you think I should go about preparing for the GRE? That is, any specific methodology that you recommend I follow? I ask because many of you CCers are quite ingenious in various aspects including test preparation. Thus, I thought why not get suggestions from you all.

Thanks in advance.

vocab cards, lots of practice problems, natural aptitude... reading a lot and plenty of mock tests will help too.

I only had a week to prepare, my fault, and used Princeton's Crash Course book, a box of vocab flash cards, although I only got about half way through, and the powerprep software is a must even though it can be tricky to get it to work properly. Expanding your vocabulary is the biggest help for the verbal and as many full practice tests as possible, but I'm not expert.

... no expert.

I think Barron's is by far the best book for vocab. Princeton's Review vocab book is alright. Make your own flashcards, go over them whenever you're not doing anything else, move on to a new set as quickly as you can. Obviously the powerprep practice tests are great all-around resources too.

Kaplan cd tests are pretty good, for math especially. The ETS powerprep is easier than the actual test.
Barrons word list is just too much if you have even 2 months during your college semester. Try Kaplan's wordbox, it was helpful. Also, note down ETS words you come across in their book of 10 practice tests and on the powerprep cd.
