i got a 2010 and by the beginning of school, i would like to wish to have above 2150 or even break 2200. do you guys know of any books that would be good for someone like me who is getting in the 2000 range?

i got
730 writing
640 math
640 cr

which books will help me in math and reading?

what i heard is this: grubers is the best for math, and grammatix is the best for cr.
grammatix is indeed good for cr, the techniques helped me alot, im getting better at it too.
one question, how did u get 730 w -.-

i have a really good ear for hearing mistakes and also had a really good old-fashioned elementary school teacher who taught me how to write correctly

im a freshmen and i scored a 1960 on my Sat's.
720-math
620-reading
620- writing
can anyone tell me what my score would be by the time i take it in my senior year? How do i improve CR scores and don't tell me the old-fashioned "read alot of books" methodology. Specificially tell me how i improve my scores based on your experience.

I would say use Gruber's for both fresh101 and 3365. Gruber is renowned for being really complete. If you lack self-discipline and have lots of money, go to a prep course. I wouldn't use those "2400" books unless you with no prep got at least a 2200...they are mostly strategies not content

fresh101 , it's hard to tell. but consider u're only a freshy, and u're already close to 2k; even if u dont start prep now, i think u'll be able to get 2200+ easily. fresh with 19 is crazy =P. i think i would get like 1200 if i took it during fresh yr. hahah

How do i improve CR scores without reading books? Any suggestions?
My weakest points are usually having to answer questions that deal with comparing the paired passages. I hate that! How do i improve this weakness?

I asked the same kinda question and after extensive forum-reading, I had concluded that RocketReview was the most appropriate prep book. The woman at Barnes and Noble even said they sell faster than Gruber's (the other book I was comparing) because you don't need a tutor for it, it's easier to understand, it's not as intimidating, it only gives you EXACTLY what you need, and it is strong in ALL areas, not just math in particular like Gruber's.

how many people who have used Rocketreview revolution have had their scores increase by a big number? and if you would so be kind to tell me, by how many points?

rocketreview is not as good as i anticipated, but it's pretty useful.
one good advice i got from the book was to read the first paragraph CAREFULLY, and now im mingling grammatix approach and rr technique, results are pretty good.i feel like im doing alot better...

Based on Amazon (forty something reviews, five stars. check them out, they're long) and the CC forum it's A LOT. Plus, B&N said RR are the only prep books they have that sell almost as soon as they are restocked.

So you say you are depressed so I will tell you a story that Ive told many that scored lower than they expected. In my sophomore year I thought I would dominate PSAT, however to my surprise i got 49 CR, 71 M, 49 W. I was starstruck and disappointed. So I decided to try to work on CR and W over the summer between soph. and junior year however even with all the work my scores barely increased 59 CR 71 M 67 W. I was aiming for NMSF, but I wasn't even close to the cutoff, in fact I wasn't even commended. Therefore I worked even harder on my SAT that I wanted to take in March. I got 700 CR 770 M 630 W with a 6 essay. I was happy with the 700 CR but I really thought I could get 800 M and 700+ in W so I tried again in June I ended up with 670 CR 790 M 780 W with 12 essay.

Now I am going to describe my prep.

Math: I only did practice tests. I usually made a couple dumb mistakes or didn't read the question, so all that i needed to do was pace my self. You might want to look at whether you make dumb mistakes or don't know the question. If you don't know the concepts then I would suggest using rocket review and barrons math prep along with QAS from the Google Groups CC-SAT prep.

CR: I thought studying vocabulary would be a waste because when you study 3000 words 20 might show up on the SAT, therefore I learned all the roots that the barrons prep book had, it was very useful to help find SC answers. Other than that I did numerous sections. Also I picked up a little trick on CC where you look at the line numbers then bracket those line numbers in the passage, read the passage, and once you reach the end of a bracket you answer the question, and then answer the remaining questions. I think I got that off the Xiggi SAT prep advice. Grammatix was also a helpful guide for SC and passage answers.

Writing: I first realized that the problem was I didn't understand a lot of the rules. I read over Rocket Review a few times. The essay writing techniques were also really helpful.

I would aim for 2-4 practice tests a week, but usually did one. Hope this helps, if you need anything else please feel free to PM me.

I've heard a couple of people saying grammatix helps with the CR section. How does it help? How can points possibly can be raised from practicing grammar? What does grammar have to do with reading a passage and anwering questions?

Get the real blue book and practice. Look at the "Xiggi" thread on this forum. Xiggi's method helped me a lot. I bumped my score 200 points, 2120 to 2320, just practicing with sections from the Real SAT book collegeboard sells.

and for writing, just read a good newspaper or magazine daily. I read the economist, the atlantic, and the wallstreet journal both for pleasure and to help my vocabulary and writing.
