Record Applications for Tufts 2020

According to a Tufts tweet from earlier today, they have received a record number of applications for the class of 2020 - 20,160 applications for an expected class of 1,325. The Dean of Admissions said that the acceptance rate will certainly be lower than last year’s 16%. Also notable, ED apps have increased by 70% since 2010.

Tufts is high on D’s list for next year, and the lower acceptance rate has me worried.

Doesn’t necessarily mean it will be harder to get in. More applicants does not mean more highly qualified ones. UCLA and Berkeley are both projected to receive more than 100,000 applications this year.

Apparently Tufts Dean of ad said that 80% of this year’s applicants were qualified. Tufts denied very high stats students from my kids’ school, which is true of many other highly selective colleges. I keep thinking it can’t get worse, but it seems to:-)
