I’m looking to major in some form of science and minor in journalism, but id still like to pursue my musical passions in college. Are there any colleges with engaging recreational music programs/environments that don’t necessarily require you to major or minor in music? Colleges I’ve been considering applying to include Tulane, Purdue, UC Davis, Whitman and U-Dub. Would these colleges have what I’m looking for, and are there any more I should add to the list? Thank you
I would say most if not all colleges have music groups on campus you can join just for fun. There are hundreds of musical groups on my campus of all types that you can join by audition at the beginning of each semester, or you could just form your own. There are also music classes anyone can take at my school; I’m in a flute ensemble class that meets only once a week for one credit each semester. Some colleges allow non-music majors to still play in the university wind ensemble, orchestra, or choir.
