Recruited by coaches... now crickets

My senior was recruited (visit, overnight, etc) by D1 coach who said no athletic $, but a place on the team, lower rung of top group. Kid got in with merit aid but no contact from coach. Emailed assistant coach/ recruiting contact yesterday. No reponse.
Is this a “no?” Couldn’t they at least say that?? Any advice?

I understand that you eager as I would be too but it’s only been one day so I would wait it out for a couple more days…

If it was a parent that emailed and not the student, I have heard that coaches would much rather deal with the student. When a follow up contact is made, let the student make it. Is this the #1 school with or without the sport?

Yup, one day isn’t enough time to start worrying. Is the school on break right now perchance? I know it is spring break for many colleges.

Is the sport in season right now? National swimming championships are happening now, some schools are on break, some are traveling .

Do you have other options you need to decide on right away? If so, make sure this coach knows this. If not, try to relax.

Thanks responders. You know I don’t know if they are on spring break. It is track so indoor had ended and outdoor is beginning. There are other options but none that need to be decided on now. Initiating relax mode.

I don’t know what college or what level but this weekend is Indoor D1 and D3 Nationals so it is a very busy week for many coaches.

I think it is merely an issue of timing due to Spring break and Indoor Nationals. My daughter is a recruited track athlete and I know the anxious feeling well. I’d check the school’s spring break schedule and also if they have any athletes at Nationals. Give it until maybe Wednesday and shoot off another email. Coaches like athletes willing to pick up the phone and call also. Good luck!

Thanks CC ! Good advice all around. Good luck to your daughter!

Mitch22 – Too soon to worry about a lack of response, as others have said, Indoor Nationals were this weekend and there is no gap in track seasons. Most teams start outdoor season next weekend. Also Spring break doesn’t exist for track. (At least in D1) athletes stay on campus or (an alternate training location if dorms close) and they usually have meets on both weekends and/or additional training during the week. So the coaches will be very busy.

Why are you thinking this is a “no” if you went on a recruiting visit? What did you say in the email to the coach? Are you looking to confirm a spot? If so, have your son/daughter just ask for confirmation that they will have a spot and no tryouts. If you need to know before deposit monies are due, better to just say so. Otherwise the coach may not even realize you are looking for any type of confirmation and some really great coaches are terrible communicators
