Hello!

I have a few questions about recruiting at Stanford, and how that will play into admissions. I am a solid wrestler and the coach at Stanford told me that he would be recruiting me for next year. My GPA is above 3.9 (lots of AP classes) and my SAT composite is above a 2220. All other parts of my application should be pretty solid.

I have already told the coach that I will be applying early to Stanford. Are there any recruited athletes at Stanford who can tell me what to expect? Do you know anyone who was recruited but didn't get accepted?

Anything helps!

Good for you! I don’t really have any advice (not an athlete) but just want to say congratulations! To be recruited by Stanford’s coach in addition to having such good scores is no mistake - you worked hard and now the fruits of your efforts are materializing!

I sure hope you get in… and that we can maybe meet at Stanford as classmates haha

I’ll play devil’s advocate here. You’ve given everything to Stanford, they have given you nothing. I don’t know Stanford’s position on clarifying intent (likely letter, etc). At a minimum I recommend an affirmation from admissions delivered by the coach. Also, you must have a plan B in place now, not after bad news from Stanford.
Realistically, if the coach wants you to wrestle, they’d love to have you. If not, you have nothing but great choices.
If you post this on the athletic recruiting forum, there are many talented advisors/parents who can shed more light on your situation. Best of luck!

@pardullet where does OP say he has bad news?

Of course, nowhere. I’m encouraging plans now, just in case. Until he’s accepted, he has no acceptance.
Things look spectacular but, while he has leverage and before all the seats are filled, he should have a solid plan B in place.

@pardullet My sister has gone through this whole process, so I’ve learned not to assume acceptance. I have plans B-F in my disposal haha!

@narmanc It was a great day for me! Fingers crossed for becoming classmates at Stanford!!

I have already posted in the “recruiting” forum. Thanks guys!!
