I am gonna being helping out during recruiting and I was hoping to get an idea of what sort of fun recruiting activities people have had. Beyond the standard bars and restaurants, have people gone to campus sporting events, local museums, pedestrian malls etc? Do people just prefer to take the free time they have and sleep? Thoughts?

ice cream
ice cream all the way

ps: and cookies

The problem with the activities you mentioned is that it would require too much time. The interview weekend is tiring and often people feel obligated to go to the after hours stuff, like bars and whatever, so I don’t know how well doing a 2-3 hour extra event would go over. Museums are definitely out because there is generally a noise level you try to be under, and the focus is not on interacting and social things but on the items you are viewing.

I think anything you suggest outside of the bar should include many of the things the bar is good for. High social interaction, de-stressing, and not too lengthy. For me, I really disliked doing these things the more interviews I went on. At a certain point, I was interviewing every weekend and it was cold and the days were long.

I like the idea of having something small like the person above me suggested. Maybe go to a local, on campus restaurant/pub/ice cream place etc.
