I did get the tape yesterday and reviewed it right away. I was quite impressed with your play. You have good explosiveness of the ball and pursue running backs well. I can tell that youre a fierce competitor exactly the type of defensive lineman that we want at *****.

Long story short, , is that were very excited about your application to . I can envision you playing an immediate impact role on our team, particularly with some hard work in the off-season this summer. I hope you choose to come to **. Wed love to have you.

I gave your tape to my defensive line coach. He will review it in the coming days.

We also saw your grades and your ssat scores which are definately up to par. Although your grades could be a bit better, your ssat will definately help your application.

If you have additional questions, please let me know. Thanks for sending the tape.

Best,

This is an email i got from a top tier boarding school. won't specifiy b.c well yeah.
Just had a great call with him, he said "We'd love to have you, and you are one of top recruits." He also mentioned how ectastic my interviewer was about me. He told me I'd be an impactful player at the school. So is this some email a coach sent to be nice? Or is it genuine?

Well, it’s not a recruitment letter, but I think it helps. The reason for this is because my mom told me a story about my neighbor who got a letter from the coach of the college he’s applying to and the coach even told him his position. However, he did not get in to that college.

Absolutely not a cruel joke. Intended as a tongue-in-cheek compliment to you for getting such a flattering and encouraging letter. Such a letter really would thrill our son! Yes, our son does play ball - 3 kinds, in fact - soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. But maybe they don’t add up to equal football? A cruel truth, perhaps, but one I can live with.

yes, thsoe are 3 fabolous sports. soccer is one of the best games ever, and more ppl should appreciate it. I still think that football becomes more important because it is the american game? correct me if im wrong, but i feel hockey and football players are the most recruited. btw mainer where is ur son applying?

u should send a game tape… thats what i did. coach told me that when he first talks to everyone, they act like hotshots… but after seeing the tape he was convinced =)

Not to take you off your high horse but sometimes the admissions office screws over the coaches. For example, Exeter loses most of its tennis recruits to Andover because the admission office never accepts them. Just warning you that even though a coach wants you to play for the team is not a direct acceptance letter… definitely stay in touch with the school, admission officers, teachers, etc.

hmm, thx for the tip. the caoch told me he works really close with admissions, not to mention my interviewer is the associate director of admission and hes really helping me out. i am keepin in touch, but not that much to drive them insane. also the coach told me, “admissions asks me if the student is going to be impactful as soon as the student gets here or long term” coach answered as soon as i get there… so hope its good. plus i have more interests then football i do takewondo zen buddhism korean drums mun and other ecs…

Lots of horse trading goes on in the admissions office before March 10. It’s a nice letter as to what the coach sees things today, but you can’t read too much into it.

“horse trading”? LOL Now I don’t have direct experience, but doesn’t this mean OP is in a smaller pool of recruits now? Suppose the coach has identified 5 appliants for their football team, and eventually can only get 2 in, which would still be a 40% rate. Especially if football is an important sport in that school, I’d think a letter like that means a lot. What I don’t understand is why the coach sends letters like that out now? It’s not like the applicant can go anywhere or withdrew his application before March 10.

… the coach at this school told me I am one of the top recruits, in fact, he said I would be the top recruit besides some postgrads. i am applying to a couple of schools. This one is from one of the top tier schools you would say, which has generous financial aid. This school should be in the HADES category… It starts with a C to give u guys a hint or is that too obvious =p Also my interviewer (we have been on really really good speaking terms) and said that financial worry shouldnt be my concern, and said quote "You are a very strong candidate for our school, although we cannot garuntee admissions during this time, we would love for you to choose ****.

Also… I have gotten familiar letters/calls from other great schools such as these… most of them HADES.

PS- I think the coaches send letters like this to athletes b.c sometimes we have more choices? mayb it was only this school… the coach knows im pratically obsessed with the school. also he offered kids from the team to talk to me and how great it is.

ALSO

horse trading- does this mean like my chances got scrweed over?

horse trading is like trading applicants between schools

for example if you they want you really bad then they will make a deal with the other schools you are applying to for them to put you on the waitlist or reject you and in return they will waitlist or reject kids who the other schools are interested in.

or if you say to a school that it is your number one choice
then they will communicate that to the other schools

… i serriously doubt that they do that though…

btw if that happens i dont mind… the schools ive been talking to are all great, and they seemed itnerested enough. but i would love to go to either choate andover or st pauls… top 3 choices =)
