Recs from a teacher who is quitting?

I'm a junior thinking about asking one of my former teachers for a teacher recommendation next year, but I received news today that she is thinking of transferring to another school next year! If I still ask her for a rec, how would this work? Could I still use her as one of my two teacher recs?

Definitely. The person writing my letter of rec retired at the end of the last school year. Just send her the information, make sure she is willing and it should be fine.

I’ve seen a lot of posts that say that it’s ok to get recommendations from former teachers and retired teachers and teachers-about-to-quit and everything, but what if the teacher has ALREADY quit and is teaching in another school now? Is it still ok to ask for a rec from him/her?

And if the teacher is retired, what should be put on the “school” blank in the teacher info section of the Common App’s Teacher Evaluation form? …and come to think of it, what to put there if the teacher has transferred to a different school (as described above)?

I’m not sure that there is any problem using a teacher who is now at a different school. In the common app, you put down the teacher’s name and their email address. You sent them the request. They open the request fill in the teacher evaluation and upload or submit it back to the common app.

At our HS, the teacher is supposed to give the counselor a printed version of the rec so it can be copied and sent to non common app schools. Our HS sends the teacher recs with transcripts in a big envelope but even if you want the teacher to snail mail the rec themselves, then make up the number of envelopes you need addressed to the different schools and mail them to the teacher so they can mail them out.

Check with your counselor but it it is doable.
