I can do SATs and ACTs; I have gone toe to toe with the subject tests; I even enjoy writing many an essay.
But recs??? Scary!!!
Advice on how to ask for one, how to ask if the teacher thinks he or she can give you a good one? I'm not an "out of control" student or anything, I'm sort of on the quiet side, good grades, pretty great papers...
and I really, REALLY want to get into my reach school.

Oh, never mind, just noticed the huge important post on asking for recs.
Sorry!

Why don’t you ask your teacher “would you feel comfortable writing me a recommendation for _____ university?” That way if they feel like they don’t know you well enough and/or won’t be able to write you a good rec, they could say no. Also if you’re a bit on the quiet side (I am too), it’s time to step up the participation senior year (if you’re gonna ask one of your current teachers for a rec anyway). They can’t really write about a person who just sits there.

Good luck getting into your reach school! :)

Ahhh late post. Oh well.
