REDO: Honors Programs, Merit Awards, etc.

fraz: Great info!!!!

Anyone else know about the "special bennies" of other honors programs besides special registration and dorms???

I'm from Missouri and our Honors Program at MU in Columbia is pretty lame - smart kids, but poorly funded, crappy dorms, big classes, etc. On the other hand, the Michigan Honors Program seems to treat you like royalty (housing, advising, classes, etc.), although it's a lot harder to get into. I am first in my class of 177 with a 4.0 GPA and a 32 ACT and was asked to submit an essay for their review. So, it probably takes more than this to get an automatic admit (generally speaking). Believe it or not, Arkansas in Fayetteville has a rising honors program. The Walton Family Trust contributed $200 million to the Honors Program and most people with my scores go there free. My prediction is that the Walton monetary influence will erase Arkansas as a "joke" state. They are completely rebuilding that campus and funding all sorts of scholarships. They may not be Michigan, Virginia, or UNC caliber for the next decade, but they are on the rise.
