I am a Junior who will be applying to colleges in Fall 2007 :)

Following various threads I am beginning to think that Wellesley has reduced
the amount of aid given to individuals - specifically the aid $'s
seem relatively smaller than one's EFC would suggest...?

.... I am wondering if anyone else is arriving at a similar conclusion....

Could those of you who have (or not have) received full coverage of their
financial need this year please post your thoughts?

arwen, realize that this is an extremely small sample of Wellesley admitees. Camelia, one of the people who had a poor financial aid package from Wellesley, also has an extremely complicated financial background, as you can see from her posts on the RD admits thread. Others (ProudDad, for one) have posted that their/their D's finaid packages were fair. I wouldn't worry too much about finaid right now--I seriously doubt that Wellesley has suddenly cut down the amount of money that it is distributing. If you need a lot of finaid, you should be sure to pick your list carefully and make sure that there are some schools that will be cheap (in-state schools) and/or will likely offer you merit aid. You may have to apply to more schools to acheive this, but it can be done. But don't eliminate a schools that you are very excited about simply because you are worried about finaid--wait until you get in and get your finaid package to see if it is a viable option.

Wellesley claims to meet 100% of financial need and is need blind in its admissions process. How Wellesley determines your EFC is based on a formula that they do not disclose.

Echoing advantagious, there's no harm in applying: there's no fee if you apply online, so if you use free SAT score reports, etc you just have to make sure that you can spout out a decent essay about why you would choose the school.

You won't know your finaid package until you actually get in. Returning students don't get next year's packages until the mid summer. (grr)

I got MORE money from Wellesley than expected! FAFSA's EFC was $27,000 but somehow Wellesley calculated my EFC to be $12,000! (we own many apartment houses, but aren't profitting from them yet) Needless to say, I'm attending Wellesley for only $12,000!
