Reed Class of 2020 ED

As far as those accepted have said, it’s FedEx for acceptance boxes.

I thought I saw someone say they got a letter in the mail first saying they were accepted, and would eventually get a package. So you might still have a chance! @blueshoe00

They really should go back to email first tbh. I called the admission office a few days ago to ask about something, and the lady was talking about how they are currently debating on whether to go back to emails for EDII and RD. Let’s hope it changes

So I used the essay I wrote for ROME (which I didn’t get accepted to), and changed it up quite a bit to use it for my Common App essay since I thought it would fit well with one of the prompts. Do you think anyone from Reed admissions will notice or care?

Notice…maybe. Care? They shouldn’t. It was your work to begin with and its still your work now. If it fits the prompt, they shouldn’t care.

D just received an acceptance via email. No letter or box. Illinois

Hi! @zimzoll , the same just happened to me. I checked my email this morning and was congratulated. I guess enough people complained. Good luck to everyone and see you all next year!

Congratulations! @whiselle. Post your stats if you don’t mind?

Stats

SAT: 2160 M: 680 CR: 750 W: 730
GPA: slightly greater than 4.0 weighted, about 3.5 unweighted.
Rank: school does not rank. Top 10 of 15 percent, probably.
Freshman year: slightly over 4.0, school does not offer APs freshman year. 1 B+, rest As.
Sophomore year: under 4.0, grades were lower. Something like a 3.9 weighted. A few B+.
Junior year: about a 4.1 weighted, 4 APs.
Senior year: 6 APs.
I did not submit my AP scores.
I also took 2 college courses in Marine Bio which I received credit for.
ECs: Fairly good.
Leadership: President of Creative Writing Club, President of Envirothon (competitive environmental club), Pres. and Secretary of my Girl Scout Troop.
Volunteer work: About 4 hours volunteering per week in a hospital and at a therapeutic riding center. I’ve also been taking dance since I was in 5th grade, and riding horses since I was in 2nd (I put this under hobbies or something). Certain summer activities were also volunteer work, but I’m not even sure if I mentioned that.
Summer things: I have done several marine biology intensive camps. Most recently, I did shark research. I also did a month long medical volunteer work program two summers ago, as well as a few Creative Writing and other medical camps that were more local. I received a bunch of certifications because of the amount of diving I’d done.
Awards: Working on my Girl Scout Gold Award. It’s been accepted and I’m planning to present it later this year. Besides that, none, really. An award for the PSAT, and I’m in four honor societies, although not NHS. School awards for a high GPA, stuff like that. Nothing major.
Essays: I wrote my CommonApp essay about scuba diving. It was good, and better than my Paideia essay, for sure. My Paideia essay was about how there should be a class teaching people how to care for their goldfish, since Reed students can own pets, etc. It wasn’t bad or anything, but the writing wasn’t as strong as my CommonApp essay.
Recommendations - Good. I was close to both teachers, although I was closer to my english teacher. HOWEVER! Their website says recs from “different academic disciplines” and I definitely didn’t do that-- one was from an English teacher, one was from a History teacher. Unless I misunderstood the website instructions, my error didn’t affect my application (or maybe it did, I’ll never know).
Interview: Well, I think? We seemed to laugh a lot. Since I live on the opposite coast, I flew out specifically to see Reed, which probably ranks high in the demonstrated interest.

Update: I received the acceptance box a few minutes ago in the mail. I think anyone who is on the East Coast who hasn’t received it yet should be doing so soon.

@EdenDanny they extended their ED2 deadline by one day to make it 12/21. They sent me an email about it on 12/21 although I had already submitted my ED2 app on the 19th. I think you are fine! Good luck all :-*

I got in

Congratulations!!!

Did every domestic applicant receive their acceptance box through FedEx?

D’s acceptance box came today via FedEx.

african american male
ACT: 33
SAT math2: 800 SAT physics: 780
GPA: 3.3 UW, only because i transferred to a much harder charter school which hurt my grades a lot, but after a year of adjustment, I’m back to normal. 4.1 W
ECs: varsity sports, research, tutoring, several leadership positions in various clubs and organization, community service, etc.
I will have taken 9 AP classes by the end of this year and 2 classes beyond the AP level

I feel like I have a solid chance but I dont really know much

If people feel comfortable sharing, what did ya’ll write your supplement (Paieda) essays about? I think the topic was super cool this year and am curious how people approached it.

I wrote mine on the significance that moshing has played in my life, and why it’s an appealing form of dance for many people.

i wrote mine about baking bread lol
really tried to channel that portland ~hippieness

I wrote my Paieda essay on teaching ‘Muggle Studies’ from Harry Potter. xD
Applied RD but I have a feeling that I will be rejected. It was a long shot anyway.
