Well, Oedipus did fulfill his subconscious desires.

A few more came out of hiding, it would seem!

RQ3: Favorite 19th/20th century explorer?

Also, any Nick Cave fans? He does a pretty sweet rendering of the Lyre of Orpheus.

e.g., "you play that effing thing down here, I'll stick up your orifice."

Hmm I'm going to go with Henry Stanley. Partly because I love the quote "Dr. Livingston, I presume," and partly because he seems to embody all that is the golden age of exploring with his safari hat and big British corporations sponsoring him. Simply being shrouded in mystery also doesn't hurt his case.

Haha! Never heard of him but I'll definitely have to check it out.

I emailed Reed a few days ago and they said they would be releasing decisions on Monday, December 15th at the end of the day and Tuesday, December 16th at the beginning of the day.

^ via email, you mean?

Yeah, by email

Oh Hell yeah! At least it's semi-confirmed so long as their servers aren't jacked with. gets majorly excited now Now I'll know by the end of Tuesday whether or not I'll need to stay home moping on Wednesday. Good times.

Hey, is anyone here a nerdfighter or know anyone who is? I've always figured if there was one place on earth where nerdfighters congregate it'd be related to Reed.

For the Fall 2008 entering class:
Number of early decision applications received by your institution: 214
Number of applicants matriculating under early decision plan: 110

I thought those statistics might help to soothe some people's nerves. It's nice to remind myself that the EDers have a higher acceptance rate than the RDers. If you're interested in the full on facts of admission you can check: Reed College 2008-09 Common Data Set SecC

Will we be able to know their decision by just checking our application status?

They should be sending it out through email, so make sure to check the account you gave them including the spam box just in case.

So it seems there are only five of us. Maybe we are the only five to apply ED this year.
If that were the case, would they accept us all?

xD That would be amazing! I've actually only noticed maybe three or four others who applied EDI on the prospie lj account so maybe the crappy economy led to fewer people applying ED this year? fingers crossed

An admissions officer told me that Reed was experiencing fewer applications, and were planning on accepting more students, due to the economy. Question is: are they only accepting more students who can pay full freight?

According to an article I read (Markets threaten Oregon university endowments - Breaking News From Oregon & Portland - OregonLive.com) they said that they were going to cut down on misc. budget eaters and focus heavily on financial aid for students this year. Because Reed is about helping its nerd peeps.

But really? That's awesome! I'm slowly starting to feel better and better about my chances of getting in now. Only one or two days to go! I'm practically dancing on the inside.

I hope that what everyone is saying is true, and not just hopeful speculation.
Actually getting in would be very cool.
Does anyone know what time the e-mails go out?

Someone earlier said late tomorrow and early on Tuesday they're said to be going out. Which is great because I thought this year might be a repeat of next.

What majors is everyone here interested in?

^ Biology - but I'm considering an ad-hoc interdisciplinary major in biology/anthropology. I'm not at all interested in medicine, however. Ecology, rather.

Other than that, foreign languages and linguistics, and film will fill up the rest of my electives, I'm sure.

Probably history of some sort, or English, maybe music...or something math-related....

I'm thoroughly undecided, as you can see.

Economics or psychology. Maybe sociology.

political science and econs. may be education or physics if I change my mind. I got a 800 on SAT 2 physics test but I dont think I like it at all.

gud luck tomorrow! u guys are so lucky to receive the emails so soon. For me it will be in more than 4 months. hope to see you all in Reed!!!
