So I received several emails and phone calls from an admissions officer, Amanda Miller, at Reed asking me to come visit the school at the end of March. They would pay for everything, transportation, food, etc. Has anyone ever heard of them doing this before? Obviously I got into the school and I just want to make sure that this is on the up and up haha. Thanks!

Yay! Sometimes colleges do this for students they really really want - especially if they believe it will be a hardship for the student to visit otherwise (perhaps because of financial reasons, or maybe because of simple geography).

Go! Have a good time! Let them impress you . . . you’ve obviously already impressed them.

Yep. Same here. Congrats Josephina92. I hope you attend.

Thanks you guys. I’m so excited, I’ve been wanting to visit the campus and getting to go for free is definitely the better option :)

Huzzah for you You applying for class of '16?

Lol no class of 2015 :)

Congrats! This is very exciting news. Make the best out of your stay and the Portland area.

Oh sorry! I read your post wrong ^^‘’

Congrats anyway! We’re classmates, yaay.

Thanks again, guys. I am so excited…But it is a huge bummer to have to go to school for the month of March. I just want it to be the end of March, so I can see this fabulous school.

I’m also pretty set on Reed. I have a few other top choices, from which I haven’t heard back yet, but I do doubt that they will be able to compete with Reed, simply because I will have actually seen Reed’s campus, instead of just looking at the virtual tours online. So honestly, the only thing that could prevent me from going to Reed would be financial aid stuff…which hopefully won’t be too big of an issue.

Haha and thanks Francaisalmatt. So are you currently a junior and will be going to Reed next year…? Or will you be starting in Fall 2011? I’m just a little confused…hehe

'Sokay, our whole conversation has been a big miscommunication (my fault). I’m a senior who’s enrolled for the Fall of '11. See, I thought YOU were a junior prospecting Reed, which is why I was asking about being in the class of '16. Then, you said you’d already gotten in, which is why I said we were going to be (assuming you enroll) classmates.

Glad to see that is all cleared up. I would say I am only…85-90% sure that I have been accepted, simply because I am the kind of person who likes evidence and I haven’t actually received a letter. But if I have been accepted, I am pretty set on going to Reed. The only thing that could prevent me would be the financial aid stuff.

Did you apply to any other schools, or were you positive about Reed?

Congrats Josephina!

Hope you’ll have a ton of fun while visiting.

We might be classmates next year

What other schools are you considering?

I had other schools as backups in case I didn’t get into Reed, but Reed is the only place I truly would have loved to go to. So, I applied ED, and didn’t even start the applications for my other schools XD

Good luck with your visit and your acceptance :)

mariomaniac so far I have only been accepted to Willamette university and western Washington university. However if I get accepted, then I will consider Pomona college.

Hey Josephina92, I am a bit late on this but you shouldn’t let aid be a factor. Reed meets 100% of need, with low amounts of loans. If I were you, it would come down to Reed and Pomona, but I think Portland beats Southern California, that’s just me.

Oh! Unless you like lots of sun. :)

Haha paradox3 I do like lots of sun, that’s always what has me hesitating about Reed. I’ve lived in Western Washington almost my entire life, and have had to deal with rain since then. I generally hate it, but I have been trying to accept this weather. I really, really like Reed and am trying to embrace the rain. So we’ll see =)
