This is a question largely directed towards current Reedies, but everyone should feel free to jump in.

What "makes" an application at Reed? Is there anything in specific that you feel really boosts a prospective students chances? Likewise, is there anything prospective students should avoid?

I know this is a bit early, but I'm applying early decision and I'd really like to take the time to make my Reed application the best it can be.

How should I know? Something that I think might have “made” my application could have actually been seen as negative… no one really knows what goes on behind those closed doors. The “Why Reed” essay is important, but other factors seem to be of equal importance.

In general, you should avoid sounding fake, cliche, or trite in the application and be sure to write with your own unique voice. Don’t be who you think they want to see, but be honest with who you actually are. But I’d recommend that with practically any application.

Oh, I know— submit everything on time, including forms/recs that others have to fill out on your behalf. THAT is important.
