References from High School Employers?

Hey all,

Well, I just got my evaluation from my summer job (lifeguard)... and it was pretty bad. The facility as a whole is a hostile management environment and working there for 3 years they really treated me badly. But now because of this, I cannot use any of my managers for references if i am applying for internships.

Questions:

How important are references when applying for internships? (Engineering internships)

Should I try to get professor references instead of manager references?

Does high school work experience even matter? I mean, its not even relevant to engineering. That, and i guess the rule is your supposed to have all of your high school info off of your resume during sophomore year in college.

Depends on the employer, but most likely not. For me, goldman was the only one to even ask for references.
Seriously doubt they took the time to follow up with them.

If you’re close to a professor, why the hell not. Can’t hurt.

No, unless you have absolutely nothing else (no school projects, no extra curriculars, no internships, …)
If it does come down to this, you can forget about any even remotely competitive position.

Thanks!

Any other opinions?
