Hey, everyone, I’m sure this has been asked before, but I was curious to hear others opinions on the matter of completing a minor. Originally I was a chemistry major, but I lost interest in my studies and decided to switch to mathematics. In doing so, I am only one course and its’ lab component away from completing the minor. However, I don’t initially plan on using the minor other than being a backup plan (a company came to my campus and posted job opportunities to students with a background in organic chemistry.). My worries are mostly about GPA, while I’ve recovered and went from a C-D average to an A-B average with my GPA being low it hinders my abilities to apply for summer programs and other activities. Granted I still apply anyway, I just also include an explanation for my GPA being a 2.594 compared to my major GPA of 3.4. What would you do in this situation, or recommend?
The knowledge and skills gained from the coursework matter more than formally having the minor. Even if you don’t get the minor, you still have a background in organic chemistry (assuming you’ve taken that class).
