I got my packet from NYU today, but it didn't include my studio placement or any financial aid stuff. Are these mailed seperately??

My daughter's financial aid packet was in the same large envelope as the acceptance letter. It is in a separate folder. Perhaps you did not have all your financial aid stuff in by the deadlines? FAFSA filed, etc.
The studio assignment comes in about a week I hear. Unless you said only one studio in which case you would know you got it if you got in. Ex. if you said CAP21 only, then you now you're in it.

Hi all,

My S got the Sat in the Square invitation a week or two ago. He's thrilled because Tisch is his number one choice :) We waited on pins and needles for the financial aid package, and that came a few days ago; he was offered a very generous package, and we're very grateful. However, we don't have a lot of money; our estimated financial contribution from FAFSA was zero. Even with the very generous package, my S and I would have to be responsible for about $9000 per year, including work study. So it's still difficult for us, and I already do live on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and rice! :) Does anyone know about the feasibility of work study? I heard the schedule was very tough for Tisch students, and I don't see how they could fit in working 10-15 hours a week on top of the schedule. Do they do the work in the summer?

Also, this is a sort of dumb question, but I've seen this said several times--what does 'stats' mean when applied to MT candidates? Are you guys just referring to grades and SATs or is there something more? Thanks!

raphael, I can't imagine how a Tisch drama student could find 10-15 hours per week to work. My D certainly wouldn't be able to do it. In addition to the heavy number of studio hours and academic classes, the kids have tech requirements, auditions, rehearsals, shows, and one of the HUGE perqs of attending school in NYC is the ability to see professional theatre. My opinion has always been that if you're attending a program, any program really, is that you should be able to take advantage of ALL that it has to offer, which in the case of NYU, is all that NYC has to offer, too! Kids who work 10-15 hours a week on top of their school schedule are going to lose out on other things, and that needs to be considered when making the decision to take a job. The other issue is finding a workstudy job which can be worked around their already full schedule of studio and classes. Workstudy jobs are for during the school year, not the summer.

The reference to 'stat's is to academic stats. :)

Oh boy, now i'm nervous. Though it's what I expected, since I've heard it's a demanding schedule. I guess he'll take a regular job in the summer, maybe bartending? I have to call the financial aid office Monday!

If you dont mind me asking...
anyone who thought there fin. aid packet was "dismal" or bad...what is considered bad?

dismal--$48,000 per year of loans on a $52,000 bill. Oh, and that would be with an EFC much, much lower than that.

Oh nydancemom...that is beyond dismal...that is just plain horrific! You'd think they could be a little more generous than that! Sorry your financial aid package was so lousy! But you are sooooo fortunate in that your daughter has so many other great options!!! :) Congrats to her!!!

dont feel bad nydancermom, my financial aid package was just as dismal, so im pretty sure ill be headed to ithaca for mt instead. no nyc for me, but atleast i know i was able to get in : ).
