I've been emailing the San Diego State admissions team back and forth on which CLEP exams they accept and they sent me http://arweb.sdsu.edu/es/catalog/201...arts/part6.pdf. The list of CLEP tests on that link is on page 466. The first person I talked to on the phone said they accept all the CLEP tests on that page, and if you look you can see that under the columns of "SDSU Course Equivalency" and "General Education Credit" you can see that for some tests they're both "no's". The second person I just talked to said that the CLEPs with both "no's" probably meant that they don't accept those CLEPs as transfer credits at all (she never heard of CLEP tests before this).

So my question is do any of you think the second person is right and if so I can only get about 30 credits tops (maybe less?) just from these CLEPs? I was hoping to get the full amount of 60 so I can speed up the general education and intro classes and be able to transfer over there as quick as possible...

I've only taken the Intro to Sociology test and passed that one (3 credits) but I'd love to hear your guys' opinions before I go any further.

So if you would be kind enough to open up that link and give me your opinions of what you think that would be GREATLY appreciated!

On page 464, the policy states:
Credit for College-Level ExaminationProgram (CLEP)
"The university grants credit on 33 CLEP Subject Examinations. "

On page 466, it shows the credit granted, and whether the credit has a course equivalency and/or meets the general education requirement. CLEPs that don’t have course equivalencies probably can’t be used to satisfy to pre-reqs (for instance the Psychology CLEP doesn’t count as PSY101 at SDSU, so if you want to take an advanced Psychology course with Psy101 as a prereq you’ll probably have to take the prereq.) CLEPs that are listed as credit only, like Business Law, are probably listed as generic “elective credit” on your transcript. Elective credit is good…it helps reach that magic 120 credit requirement for most majors. If you are majoring in a field with many, highly specified requirements (business, IT, etc.) you probably won’t need much elective credit. But if you are majoring something like Art History, you can probably use some pure elective credit.

It’s clear that you will get credit for the exams on the list and many of the CLEPs satisfy general education requirements. That’s great news! What a productive way to spend your summer. Knock out those CLEPs!

PS: Admissions is not usually knowledgeable about anything but AP and IB credit. The registrar’s office is often a better source.
