Regarding the prevalence of the 'wealthy, white, and JOB' majority at Bowdoin

Does the fact that almost 65% of Bowdoin’s student body consists of white, upper-class students from New England impact the social atmosphere at the College in any way? Although academic rigor is a considerable determinant behind my decision of what school is my favorite (Amherst/Bowdoin/Wesleyan/Haverford), I’d like to get a take on what some of the drawbacks of being part of these social communities would be; the prevalence of the aforementioned ethnic and economic group on-campus drew my attention, so I figured it’d be an ideal place to start.

No. Smart, talented, and caring kids…It matters little where they came from, they all participate in a common conversation and seem to appreciate this special place.

What is a JOB?

Just Outside Boston? Just a guess :)

~65% of the student body is from OUTSIDE New England (<a href=“Bowdoin at a Glance | Bowdoin College”>http://www.bowdoin.edu/admissions/glance/index.shtml</a>). Occasionally you might feel that Bowdoin’s a little east-coast heavy or a little rich and preppy, but it’s not overwhelming. We’re all part of the same community and we’re all excited to be here.

No, it doesn’t impact the social scene. Bowdoin is a very accepting community. 30% of the class of 2018 are minority students. There are cliques based on wealth or race, etc.
