On UCSD’s page describing their Regents Scholarship, they say this:

“Entering freshmen apply for the Regents Scholarship through the admissions application. UCSD Regents Scholars are also eligible for certain privileges such as: Preferred class enrollment, extended housing benefits for four years (provided housing deadlines are met), UCSD college of choice at time of admission, extended library privileges, and honors program.”

OK so I’m familiar with all the perks that come with the scholarship, but I’m confused on one part. In the above paragraph, it says you will get “UCSD college of choice at time of admission” as part of Regents. I interpreted this to mean that upon admission and being awarded the Regents, I would be able to pick which of the six colleges I’d like to go to, regardless of what I put down on my application…so if for some reason I wanted to change which college I’d like to go to, I would have that ability. But I talked with a person at the undergrad office of admissions today, and I was told that this was to be interpreted as something more like “Regents scholars will get into their first choice college that they put down on their application.” The problem is I’m not sure she completely knew what she was talking about, as she had to look up a lot of information on the spot when I was asking her questions, so I’m not sure how much I should trust her.

So what exactly am I getting here? I was admitted to Muir, which was actually my first choice that I put down on my application, but now I’m thinking that maybe I’d rather be in Warren. So with Regents, am I going to be able to change my mind and pick Warren if I want to, like I interpreted it, or is it like what I was told by undergrad admissions, and I was admitted to my first choice that I put down on my application because of Regents? Perhaps someone here could clarify for me…
