Regional Admissions Officer?

My regional admissions officer...is he/she the person in charge of where I live or where I go to school?

I go to school in NYC, but live in Queens and I know there are separate people responsible for both.

I think it's where you go to school. Admissions officers will often visit all the schools in their area during the fall and that's a great time to connect.

School....

The regional admission officer is the admission officer responsible for reading the applications from your geographic area. That person usually advocates for those in their area before the admissions committee

Office of Admissions puts out a GC newsletter each year
Names of the admissions officers and their geographic areas are listed on the last page of the pdf file

They read essays that come from your area

lol, this is pretty asinine.

does the regional admissions officer remember people from past years...it sounds weird, but my friend and I are really good together at our ECs--we founded a very profitable club together--and she's applying to college first...if we apply to the same schools...then will the college admissions officer dismiss me as "normal" because we both have similar ECs.

Sorry for the longwinded question :-)

Admissions officers are people, not robots. They remember some things, but forget others, as time passes on. Some remember more things than others. An admissions officer might remember someone's essay for the rest of his life if the essay was moving. If you're somewhat generic, they might forget who you are the day after they admit you.

Impossible to answer your question. Also, the regional adcoms change from year to year so you won't necessarily have the same person.

good point :-)

thanks!

Is it odd to write your admissions officer of major things that happened since you turned in your app? since there's like a 4 month gap of senior year between turning in app to decision notification?

It's not odd. You should do so if you have "major things"

Ah okay, yeah i mean major as in, new grades come out / join a new sport. etc.

new grades = midyear report

but other things, are we really allowed to email them? doesn't it look weird if you email them since it means you've dug the around the internet for their email address.. (like looking at the pdf newsletter)

i'd love to tell mine about the stuff i did forgot to mention and ask some questions..

^^ sure it's fine, but don't send them 5000 emails of random stuff that you've done. package it nicely, and make sure it's not inane and a waste of time.
