I realize the investment banking and other financial careers are centered in New York. However, many of these firms have regional locations in smaller cities. I'm interested in doing IB, but not in NY, but rather in Dallas or Houston; does anyone know if the hours are less and the stress is less (obviously the compensation would be less), if you are working at one of the regional offices as opposed to an HQ place.

I think it's safe to say that the regional offices are less intense than NYC. There are some exceptions (ie UBS LA) but even still, you'll be hard to press to beat the 100+ hours in nyc.

can someone give more information on this? I was wondering the same thing. Call me paranoid but I don't feel like NYC is the safest city I could be working in... How's the salary and stuff compared to the banks in new york?

yeah Hamman, I'm with you. For me, NYC is a great place to visit but not to live in. Although it is actually very safe. I just don't want to live there.
